A brief sightseeing tour through Budapest

Earlier this month I managed to add yet another city and country to my travel map, bringing my country total to 24 (some of you might remember my ’40 before 40’ post, where I calculated the number of countries I had visited up until then. Since then I have managed to add 3 more countries to the list: Poland, Israel and now Hungary).

After it had been on the radar for a long time, I finally got to visit Budapest for the first time.

Only for one night during a business trip, but I intended to make the most of the few hours I had and see it ALL (or at least try, after around 25.000 steps, I eventually gave up). But – SPOILER ALERT – I did like it a lot and I definitively will be back for more (hopefully for a full weekend at some point). So let me tell you all about my brief sightseeing tour through Budapest in just one afternoon.

Berlin in One Hour

Recently travelling back from Görlitz, I found myself with an hour or two to spare when changing in Berlin. So I wondered what to do and came up with a list of things you can do in Berlin if you only have an hour (or maybe two).

Don’t get me wrong. I am not claiming that you only need one hour to see all of Berlin. Far from it. You should allow at least 3 to 4 days if you are visiting for the first time. Or even more, which would give you a chance to also explore the surrounding areas, like the Spreewald and lakes.

But surely I am not the only one that might occasionally find herself at Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station) with an hour or two spare before heading to the airport or taking a connecting train to somewhere else in Germany.

My Travel Bucket List – 50 places yet to visit

I travel a lot for work and I love exploring new places. But travelling for work is usually limited to travelling within Europe and it does not always leave enough time to actually explore the cities / areas I visit thoroughly.

Growing up, we usually went on a 2-week holiday each summer. Alternating between visiting my family in England and camping somewhere in France. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it (I still love England and have moved here for good and I do still love going back to France, although nowadays I rather book a hotel or holiday home than go camping), but it meant the number of countries I explored was fairly limited.

Things to see in Brno

Last week’s trip had me travel to Czech Republic for a change. Not for the first time, I had been in Czech Republic a few times for work and I’ve also been to Prague for a weekend with mum two years ago. This time it was a trip to Brno. Ever wondered what are the things to see in Brno? Read on to find out.

I have flown into Brno before and I’ve driven past it several times, but I haven’t actually been to the town centre before. So I was looking forward to it. Especially since I also have friends living there and took the opportunity to catch up with them (and shamelessly use them as a free tour guide).

I was only there for one night, but still managed to see loads and walk for miles.

Exploring Times Square by Night

Battling jet lag the first night, we decided to make the most of being wide awake at 4am. So we wrapped up warm and headed out into the night. To experience the city that never sleeps first hand and explore Times Square by night. More so as it was just a few blocks away from our hotel.

Any time of day or night Times Square is a weird world of its own. The lights, the hustling and bustling, cars, noises and millions of people. For sure a place you have to see for yourself once in your life.

To see? Yes. To actually enjoy? Maybe not so much… unless you are the kind of person that loves being shoved around… not this girl though.

So obviously we’ve been there before both during the day and in the evening. But going there in the middle of the night? Totally different thing. You can actually walk around and, believe it or not, you can see the ground.

Airport Guide for Berlin – which airport to pick for Berlin

Which airport to pick for Berlin - Travel for a Living

To me Berlin is very marmite. You either love it or hate it. Not much in between. And what shall I say… I don’t love marmite…. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying I hate Berlin. Not really. But it would not make it into my top five of cities (hey here’s an idea for a new blog post… stay tuned). Nor would it be my first (second or third) choice of places to live in Germany. But I am always up for the odd weekend or visit (unlike marmite… that I do loath at all times). So if you are planning a trip to Berlin, let me tell you which airport to pick for Berlin.

Shopping Guide to Rome

Shopping Guide to Rome - Travel for a Living

I am not a big fashionista, but I love to shop. And can do so for hours, given the chance and in the right company. So it might not come as a big surprise that I had to go and explore the shops on offer here in Rome. And put together this handy shopping guide to Rome.

There is no shortage of shops obviously. Handbags, shoes and small leather goods come in plenty. So do the various designers.

A Trip to Helsingborg

Well into my big batch of travels, last week saw me travelling to Sweden for a change. No, I don’t speak any Swedish (unless ‘Hej’ and ‘Tack’ counts as language knowledge), but luckily most Swedes speak really decent English, so communication isn’t too difficult.

Apart from a weekend in Stockholm many moons ago, I have never been to Sweden before I started working in my current job. In the past year I have had a few trips, however have not always had a chance to actually see anything. But what I have seen is very pretty and makes me want to go and see more of this country… so maybe a road trip at some point? We’ll see.
