Yesterday I came across the ’30 before 30 challenge’ by London based travel blogger ‘WonderHereWanderThere’
Her aim was to visit 30 countries before turning 30 and with mission completed her post concluded with the thought of now doing a 40 before 40 challenge.
With my 40th birthday imminent in just a few weeks (whoops, did I just say this loud and admit to the WHOLE internet that I am turning 40?), it got me thinking…
How many countries did I actually visit so far?
And since I do love a list, out came pen and notebook and I started scribbling down all the countries I’ve been to (as you do, waiting at the airport for your delayed flight to finally start boarding). Trying to see, I was anywhere near completing a 40 before 40 challenge on a minute’s notice.
So here we go, so far I’ve visited:
Austria
Belgium
Czech Republic
Denmark
France
Germany
Greece
Italy
Luxembourg
Monaco
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Slovakia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Tunisia
UK
USA
Vatican City
Nope, nowhere near 40.
But I am not really surprised about it either. Almost all of my travel is within Europe, so there are only so many countries to choose from. And I doubt I will manage another 19 countries within the next 8 weeks. I might be able to add another 1 or 2 (as I have a few work trips pending), but you know what?
It doesn’t matter. I can always aim for 50 before 50 instead.
So tell me, how many countries have you visited so far? Would you succeed in the 40 before 40 challenge?
Thanks for the feature! You may not be 40 but it is great nonetheless, you’ve certainly been to some very interesting places 🙂
