Visiting Bern for the first time – A brief sightseeing tour of Switzerland’s capital

I’ve been to Switzerland a couple of times for work already, yet I have never actually visited Bern, Switzerland’s capital. So when two meetings nearby showed up on my itinerary, I was looking forward to finally getting a chance to go and visiting Bern for the very first time. But to be honest, I had absolutely no idea what to expect, I didn’t even bother googling Bern before going. So to save you from making the same silly mistake, here a brief overview of what to see in Bern if you have limited time.

There is a load more to see, so take it as a teaser of Bern, not a full itinerary for a weekend in Bern for example (which I would totally recommend and would love to do if and when I get the chance).

Things to see in Brno

Last week’s trip had me travel to Czech Republic for a change. Not for the first time, I had been in Czech Republic a few times for work and I’ve also been to Prague for a weekend with mum two years ago. This time it was a trip to Brno. Ever wondered what are the things to see in Brno? Read on to find out.

I have flown into Brno before and I’ve driven past it several times, but I haven’t actually been to the town centre before. So I was looking forward to it. Especially since I also have friends living there and took the opportunity to catch up with them (and shamelessly use them as a free tour guide).

I was only there for one night, but still managed to see loads and walk for miles.

Visiting Oslo for the first time

Somehow I’ve always neglected Nordics as a travel destination (despite actually really wanting to see them). Therefore covering maternity leave for a colleague and occasionally going there came as a nice perk of the job. As one of my last trips in 2017 I had my first ever trip to Norway… for work only, but nevertheless. And thanks to things going anything but planned, I ended up with an extra night there, although without actually seeing a thing (if you don’t count hotels and airports). So I was delighted when Norway showed up on my travel itinerary again for January. The prospect of actually visiting Oslo for the first time and staying the night and not just changing flights there got me rather excited.

Down the Tube – Secrets of the London Underground

Secrets of the London Underground - Travel for a Living

The London Underground is one of the oldest in the world. The oldest parts recently celebrated their 150th birthday. And whilst it might not be able to compete with the modern, high-tech networks in some other cities, it surely has its very own charm and identity.

No it does not run 24/7… apart from New Years Eve. Although some lines have started a night tube service on weekends.

Yes it lacks air-conditioning on most of the lines (and only works half of the time on those chosen few)

No it does not come cheap, compared to some others.

But it is still one of the quickest ways to get from A to B when in London. And we do love it, even if we complain about it (we are Brits, that’s what we do).

If you are a tourist in this city, chances are you will use it a lot and completely rely on it.

So let me introduce some tube trivia and secrets of the London Underground to keep you entertained and busy during those rides.

Visiting London on a budget – even if you are broke

Visiting London on a budget - Travel for a Living

London is the greatest city in the world (well if you ask me, which is why I (and a couple of million other people) chose to live here. But London is also one of the most expensive cities in the world. And for many that is enough to scare them off. Money aside, London has so much to offer, it would be a shame to miss out on that … and not everything comes with a hefty price tag. So here are some handy tips on how to make the most of visiting London on a budget.

Tourist in my own city

I love London… and I have called London my home for almost a decade now.

But lately I have not seen much of it… other than the office and the route to the station. So last weekend we decided to tackle this and become tourists in our own city again, just for the day.

Ever since I can remember I have been in love with London. It has always been part of my life and a place I felt at home… long before I actually moved here for good.

A girly weekend in Vienna

I have to admit it… not all my travel is work related. I do also travel for leisure… and absolutely love weekends away.

For a good two years I had regular trips to Austria (for work) and absolutely fell in love with Vienna. Before that I had only ever been to Vienna (and Austria for this matter) once, which was a good 15 years ago, maybe even longer.

But since my regular Austria trips have seized recently, every excuse will do to come back, as I fell heavily for Vienna.

So, when it came to choosing a location for a catch up with my friend, we very quickly opted for girly weekend in Vienna.

After all, what’s not to love about Vienna if you are a pair of coffee loving shopping addicts?
