With almost weekly travels I would call myself an experienced traveller. But being such a frequent traveller doesn’t mean I am free of travel nightmares. A few worries stay with me regardless the experience. So, let me share with my five biggest travel nightmares.
Travel Diary
Cycle Touring in the UK – 3 Days from Cambridge to Norfolk
Ever thought about cycle touring in the UK? No? Well me neither. I mean, I have started a tiny bit of cycling last year and have done a few rides with Mr T at home and on holiday (like our day trip from San Francisco to Sausalito for example). But sitting on my bike for days on end? I don’t think so.
Let me be straight with you here. Yes, it is me writing this post, but it wasn’t me actually doing the 3-day bike tour from Cambridge to Norfolk. It was Mr T putting in the effort. I am just here to tell you all about his first ever cycling tour.
So, if you are thinking of cycle touring in the UK, maybe this will help you a little.
A Night in Hamburg – a photographic tour of Hamburg Harbour
Last week had me stay a night in Hamburg. I love Hamburg, always have. The people here are a completely different mentality to the ones around my home area. But despite their rather rough and direct exterior, I do get on well with them. And as for Hamburg? It is just a beautiful city with a very relaxed atmosphere. In recent years I have only occasionally visited for work though. But whenever I do have a night in Hamburgon my work agenda, I am really looking forward to it. As these always turn out to be rather special. From visits to the Hamburg Christmas market, to a spontaneous concert at the (then newly opened) Elbphilharmonie.
What to do and see in Ljubljana Slovenia
Earlier this year I spent a whole week in Slovenia. And I got to spend quite some time in Ljubljana. Although sightseeing time was limited to the evenings, I got to see quite a bit. So, if you are thinking about heading to Ljubljana any time soon, let me tell you what to do and see in Ljubljana.
Our Trip to San Francisco – Part Two
And we are back. Have you recovered yet from my lengthy report of our week in San Francisco Part One? Perfect. Let’s crack on with part two of our trip to San Francisco then. In which you will find more cycling (yep, don’t ask), more cable cars (obviously) and yet more food. Sprinkled with a few more views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
A Week in San Francisco – what to see, do + eat in San Francisco Part 1
I can’t believe it is already two months since we visited San Francisco. So, without further delay (and before it is another month), it is time to reflect on our week in San Francisco. What shall I say? It was A M A Z I N G. This was the first time Mr T and I visited the West Coast, having previously only touched down in New York. Let me tell you, the West Coast is a completely different world. And San Francisco is nothing like New York City (and I don’t mean it being better or worse…. Just completely different). So enough of the introduction, let’s dive straight in. Let me tell you all about our week in San Francisco.
What to see and do at the Vitra Campus
Flying over to Germany for a day trip can be hard work. For sure it will always be a long day with a very early alarm. But it doesn’t always mean you get to see much beside airports and meeting rooms. So, the day trip to Weil am Rhein this week was a pleasant change. Yes, the meeting we had lasted most of the day. But in between wrapping up the meeting and heading back to the airport, we had an hour spare and where offered a quick tour around the Vitra Campus. So, let me tell you what to see and do at the Vitra Campus, even if you only have limited time.
Stranded in Paris
Spending an extra night in Paris? Sounds marvellous. Who wouldn’t be up for that? Spoiler alert – I wasn’t. When I tell you that the only time I actually saw the Eiffel Tower during my recent trip to Paris was when I finally took off from the airport, you might get an idea of why being stranded in Paris and spending an extra night there wasn’t too high on my agenda. You guessed it. We are not talking an extra night in the heart of Paris, we are talking being stranded in Paris Orly… the airport. Which clearly wasn’t my idea of a fun Friday night?
But I might be getting a little ahead of myself here. So let me start at the beginning…
My Week in Slovenia
Have you ever been to Slovenia? Is it on your bucket list of places to visit? No? Well it actually should be. But you know what? It wasn’t on my bucket list either. Which is a shame, because Slovenia actually has a lot to offer. So let me tell you why you should add a week in Slovenia to your bucket list.
As part of my work, I visited Slovenia last week. This was actually my second trip to Slovenia, I had already been to Ljubljana for one night back in October. But this time it was for the entire week and it would take me beyond the capital.
Preparing for a Trip to San Francisco
Hope you all started the New Year well? We sure did.
As we said good-bye to 2018, it was time to start thinking about our upcoming travel plans for 2019.
Thanks to different annual leave schedules (one by tax year, one by calendar year), every year Mr T and I end up with a week’s worth of annual leave that needs to be taken in the first three months of the year. So what to do and where to go? Last year we went to New York end of January, the year before it was a week in Normandy in February.
